ACSEP CPD program to facilitate a seamless transition to the new 2023 requirements

Approved changes to the Medical Board of Australia’s (MBA) continuing professional development (CPD) registration standard are set to come into effect for the 2023–25 triennium.

As of 1st January 2023, ACSEP members will be required to complete their CPD, with core changes:

  • Members will complete a minimum of 50 hours of CPD per annual cycle (rather than points)
  • Members will commence undertaking CPD on an annual cycle
  • Members will be required to do different types of CPD

- 12.5 hours (25%) of hours recorded under Educational Activities

- 25 hours (50%) of hours recorded across Reviewing Performance and Reflecting on Practice and Measuring and Improving Outcomes (with a minimum of 5 hours for each category)

- the remaining 25% (12.5 hours) distributed across any of the three types of CPD.

  • Professional development plans (PDPs) are required to be completed
  • CPD Home will be launched:

- To meet the new standard, doctors (other than those who are exempt) are required to have a CPD home. The Board recognises that the college CPD program is well developed and we are well advanced in revising CPD content and structures to meet the requirements of the new CPD registration standards.

- The AMC will progressively assess CPD homes throughout 2022 and 2023 and will work with specialist colleges to transition from having AMC accredited CPD programs to being accredited as a CPD home. This is expected to occur in 2022 with a view for a 2023 commencement.
