A Message from ACSEP President

I am delighted to launch the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians Annual Scientific Conference to be held in sunny Surfers Paradise in Australia, from February 7-13, 2018, just before the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Given the Conference precedes the largest sporting event in Australia in 2018, we have chosen the theme of “High Performance Medicine” as High Performance principles should apply not only to the elite sportspeople we care for but also all members of the community whether they are recreational athletes, weekend warriors or the inactive wishing to discover the many benefits of physical activity. With this in mind, the College has convened a world class faculty of pre-eminent international and local expert keynote speakers in High Performance Sport and Exercise medicine. To cater to all delegates a broader range of Stream options and Workshops are to be offered. These include but are not limited to regional musculoskeletal issues; Activity Prescription for Health; advances in Sports Cardiology; an update from ADSMAC and workshops on Doctors Mental Health and Cultural Competency and Safety. Our highly popular Management of Sporting Trauma (MOST) and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for Sport and Exercise Physicians Course will also be offered in the 2 days following the Scientific Conference.

This is a unique opportunity for the Global Sport and Exercise Medicine community; Sport and Exercise Physicians, Sports Doctors, General Practitioners, Registrars, Medical Students and other specialties to meet face to face in the ideal environment that Surfers Paradise provides.

The Scientific Program will again be preceded by the ACSEP Registrar conference from February 6-8 and will have a diverse social and activity program as always with our activity morning on the Friday the 9th, where you can choose between golf in the lush green hills of the Hinterland, tennis in the tropical hotel grounds, paddle boarding on the tranquility of the nearby lagoons, a surf in the roaring waves of Surfers Paradise or simply a walk and a coffee with colleagues. Welcome drinks with a fancy dress theme will kick off proceedings on the Friday evening with the formal Annual Fellowship dinner on the Saturday welcoming our new Fellows to the College and rewarding those who contribute so much to our  College.

A record number of domestic and international delegates and exhibitors made our 2017 Keeping you Active Scientific Conference the biggest and best Conference ACSEP had hosted. I am confident that our 2018 High Performance Medicine Conference will top this and leave you with many wonderful practice pearls, memories and new friends

I look forward to welcoming you to the magnificent golden beaches and the home of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
