Practice Details:  Axis Auckland is part of a multi-disciplinary sports medicine clinic called UniSports Sports Medicine which combines the expertise of Axis Sports Medicine Specialists with UniSports Physiotherapy and UniSports Orthopaedics. The clinic is based in the Colin Maiden Park sports complex in St Johns, Auckland which includes cricket, football, and rugby grounds, and on the same block we have tennis, netball, with gymnastics, hockey and swimming venues under development. We have four full time sports physicians, up to three registrars and offer complementary services such as extra-corporeal shockwave therapy and an acute sports-related concussion clinic. Our physiotherapists all work with high-performance sports athletes and professional sports teams. Our surgeons specialise in arthroscopic and sports surgery covering shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and ankles, as well as compartment release surgery. We also have a podiatrist from Footworks. We combine teaching with Axis-North Shore. There is good support for research and lots of opportunity for sports coverage, in particular the national rugby competition, and the annual Auckland event for the ITF tennis tournaments. We have on-site radiology in the form of plain films.

Practice Details:  Capital Sports Medicine is a multidisciplinary clinic in the heart of Wellington city. There is a friendly and sociable vibe. Jake Pearson is the sport and exercise physician there and enjoys having a registrar there to keep him on his toes.

PRACTICE:   SUMMIT SPORTS MEDICINE

Practice Details:  Situated in the Adams Centre for High Performance Sport at Mount Maunganui. The centre is a new and evolving multidisciplinary setting also housing physiotherapy, podiatry, massage, soft tissue therapy, Waikato University sports science labs, elite athletes’ gymnasium, seminar/team rooms. The centre is also home to the World Champion mens and womens All Blacks 7s and also Bay of Plenty rugby. Locally based Blackcaps train onsite. Surfing NZ utilize the space on weekends. The building is adjacent to international cricket and hockey venues, rugby, touch rugby and netball surfaces.  We are also close to the beach, Pilot Bay and downtown Mount Maunganui- perfect for a lunchtime run/surf/fish.

Training Opportunities:  Site for SMNZBOP meetings, elite rugby medical professionals group, High Performance Sport meetings, AIMS games coverage, ample opportunities to cover contact sports teams and be involved with a broad range of elite athletes- yesterday when I did my lunchtime workout Steve Adams was in the gym!

Training Placement:  3rd/4th year preferred, (sorry as a single practitioner clinic I would be unable to accommodate a first year but could possibly take on an experienced 2nd year)
