From ACSEP President

I am delighted to launch the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians Annual Scientific Conference to be held in Australia’s capital, Canberra, from February 7-9, 2020. Once again, the College has convened a world class faculty of pre-eminent international and local expert keynote speakers in Sport and Exercise Medicine including Dr Jane Thornton and Dr Tracy Ray. The 2020 program will explore a range of themes including Exercise is Medicine, Paediatric Sport & Exercise Medicine, Surgical and injectable interventions in SEM and a range of medical & musculoskeletal themes in SEM. Our highly popular Management of Sporting Trauma (MOST) and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for Sport and Exercise Physicians Course will also be offered in the two days following the Scientific Conference.

This is a unique opportunity for the global Sport and Exercise Medicine community; Sport and Exercise Physicians, Sports Doctors, General Practitioners, Registrars, Medical Students and other specialties to meet face to face.

The scientific program will again be preceded by the ACSEP Registrar Conference from February 5-6 and will have a diverse program. Delegates can explore Canberra through a variety of exercise based activities including golf, tennis, stand up paddle boarding, hiking and mountain biking – a unique feature of our conference, to encourage colleagues to practice what they preach.

I look forward to meeting many of you at our social activities, including the official welcome event and the formal annual Gala Dinner; where we recognises our newest Fellows to the College along with those who have significantly contributed Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Following the success of our 2019 Conference in Queenstown, New Zealand, I am confident that Canberra will also deliver an amazing experience; leaving all delegates with many wonderful practice pearls, memories, and friendships.

I look forward to welcoming you.

Dr Louise Tulloh
President, ACSEP

From conference convenor

On behalf of the ACSEP Conference committee and as the Canberra 2020 conference convenor, I am delighted to welcome the Fellows, Registrars and Members of ACSEP to Australia's bush capital. Canberra offers the College the opportunity to bring our speciality and all of its benefits to the home of the Australian policy decision makers and the program will showcase the breadth and depth of our skills. Canberra has a thriving coffee culture and the conference will reflect this, with a tagline of "take-aways" - think environmentally responsible, keep cup, coffee inspired, clinical pearls for your consulting from the clinic to the club rooms.

We will have the chance to practice what we preach with the conference opening with the fun run on the famous 5km Bridge to Bridge loop around Lake Burley Griffin and the physical activity afternoon on Saturday taking attendees hiking up Black Mountain, mountain biking at Mt Stromlo, stand up paddle boarding on the lake or golfing at Gungahlin.

We will celebrate the newest members of the College Fellowship at the National Museum and there will be plenty of opportunity for coffee catch ups.

Chair, ACSEP Conference Committee
