The Welcome Function will kick off following day one of the Scientific Conference on Friday 8 February 2019, with drinks from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Reds Bar on level 5 of the conference venue. Reds Bar offers breathtaking views gazing out over Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables, of one of the Lord of the Rings-like mountains.

The third largest lake in New Zealand, Lake Wakatipu fills a giant, glacier-carved gutter and is completely surrounded by hulking mountains. The lake’s strange shape causes the water to rise and fall about 10 centimetres every 25 minutes or so. According to Maori legend, this rise and fall is the heartbeat of Matua, an enormous creature that is said to be sleeping at the bottom of the lake.

The 2019 Welcome Function will again see a theme attached to the evening. To suit the adventure town of Queenstown, the 2019 theme will be Adventure Sports for those who wish to dress up. The coveted and distinguished 'Jowie' will be awarded to the best dressed team or individual on the night.

Full conference registrations are inclusive of entry to the Welcome Function. Additional tickets may be purchased during the conference registration process.
