Remote supervision pilot designed to encourage doctors to train and practice in rural areas

The Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians was successful in securing funding from the Australian Government as part of the Flexible Approach to Training in Expanded Settings (FATES) program.

This funding will support the ACSEP Remote Supervision Pilot that aims to enable quality remote training supervision for registrars undertaking their training in rural areas. Delivered over two years, the pilot will utilise a range of multimedia platforms to ensure registrars receive sufficient support from a supervisor while having little in-person contact.

There is evidence to suggest that training in rural settings is a key influencer to rural practice later along the career path. It is anticipated that by enabling quality remote training opportunities that more trainees will choose rural practice upon becoming a specialist.

Funding for the pilot is being provided by the Commonwealth Department of Health. To read the Department of Health media release, click here.
